If any of you follow my social media then you will know that I am jetting off to New York and Washington tomorrow. I am beyond excited to be back in the States as it is one of my favourite places in the world. NYC isn't a place I have visited before, so I want to make the most of every second that I am there.
This means, and although I hate to say it, visiting all the top-tourist areas. I get really annoyed when in central London at having to push my way through herds of tourists or duck constantly to stay out of their pictures, because I've seen it all before. I can't help but think "It's not that special, get over it!". But I guess thats what New Yorker's will think of me, so I have found a new perspective on things back home and to remember what it was like to be amazed for the first time.
I thought it would be a fun idea to share with you some of the things that I definitely want to experience whilst there, and hopefully inspire some fellow travellers to bucket-list their destinations too!
1. Stand At The Top Of The Empire State Building
As one of the most iconic buildings in the world, I can't help but think of this iconic picture below. Back then there were no safety regulations or machinery so these guys must have been brave as hell. I also can't help but think of Chuck Bass waiting for Blair Waldorf up there.
2. Eat Breakfast In A Traditional Diner
This is something I have done every time when I've visited the US. In fact last time, whilst in Chicago, I became a bit of a dab-hand at waffle-making. Now, you couldn't do this all the time or you would end up looking like Aunt Marjorie when Harry blows her up. But when on holiday, you've got to treat yourself!
I can't help but think of the diner scene in Grease with Sandy and Danny whenever I'm in one...

3. Visit The Smithsonian Museum Of Natural History
I honestly cannot wait to go here. Museums are definitely my thing. It's not just the exhibitions and content of the building (although I am super excited for the Dinosaurs Imagined and Reimagined with Matt Carrano exhibition. I love dinosaurs!), its the wealth of knowledge that surrounds the place that you can just submerge yourself into. There really is nothing like that feeling!
4. Indulge In A Coastal Kaleidoscope
I've only ever seen the classic, quintessential lights of NYC on pictures. I stood on the Skydeck in Chicago which was pretty mind-blowing (picture below) and London from the Eye (which is minuscule compared to the expanse of the US), but I want to experience the coastal kaleidoscope of colour that engulfs New York. Brace yourself for an abundance of pictures when I return!

5. Walk Round Central Park
Everyone says how you feel like you're in the middle of the countryside whilst in the heart of one of the biggest cities in the world. Whether this is true or not, I'm sure it is about as close as you can get to it. The juxtaposition of greenery to urban landscape seems almost fiction. Plus, I want to visit where Chuck and Blair got married and re-create that scene... sorry not sorry.

6. Times Square
Yet another iconic scene. This will probably be quite a struggle for me if I am honest. As one of the busiest parts of the city, this will be a battle with my Anxiety. I don't want to let it hold me back though.

7. Eat A Pizza Slice As Big As My Head
Now when I was in Chicago, I sat on the edge of Lake Michigan (more like a bloody ocean) and ate famous Chicago town pizza, and then watched the firework display. Ah, precious memories... Now that was a pretty big slice, but I'm hoping New York can hold their own!

8. Visit Grand Central Station
I don't just want to visit this for a lot of my favourite films having scenes here, but for architecture and events inside - like the hidden maze!

9. Go To Barns & Noble
Books, books, books. I've talked about them enough times for you to realise this place is going to be my heaven! For some reason, (definitely not the fact I spent almost all my money in Macy's on all my favourite designer makeup), I haven't visited them before on any of my other trips to the US. This is my chance!

10. Watch A Street Show
I know I keep mentioning Chicago (it was the biggest city I've ever been to so is the only place I can liken NY to really...) but whilst walking through the windy city, there was one particular street show which had me bent over laughing. These guys had truly crafted their talent and were just trying to make a living. Plus it only emphasised that brilliant culture!
I would love to know below any other things you recommend I should do, what you love most about NYC/Washington if you have been, and if you would love to go someday - what do you really want to do?
